Whitehaven is the leading coal producer in the Gunnedah Basin and employs more than 250 people in Northwest New South Wales.The company is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange - ASX:WHC.  

We are committed to the sustainable development of our coal reserves, the safety and wellbeing of our employees and working constructively with local communities.

Whitehaven currently operates four open cut mines in the region:

• Rocglen
• Sunnyside
• Tarrawonga
• Werris Creek

Last coal was produced from the Canyon mine in July, 2009 and the mine site is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

These mines produced 2.8Mt of saleable coal in FY2009 (100% basis).

The company’s major Narrabri North underground coal mine is under construction and expected to begin producing coal in early 2010.

Whitehaven has an interest in tenements covering approximately 427km2 in the Gunnedah, Werris and Ashford Coal Basins of New South Wales.

The company also operates its Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) and rail loader near Gunnedah.

Whitehaven has an 11% interest in the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) which is currently developing a new coal export terminal at the Port of Newcastle. This is in addition to its port allocation at Port Waratah Coal Services.
